Antibiotic (antimicrobial) resistance poses a major threat to everyday life and modern-day medicine where lives could be lost as a result of antibiotics not working as they should. All the healthcare staff, as well as the public, have a very important role in preserving the power of antibiotics and in controlling and preventing the spread of infections. Amongst the approaches to reduce this threat includes adequate infection prevention and control practices, good antimicrobial stewardship, and the use of diagnostics. Empower executed various projects in the field of AMR including design, development, and deployment of e-learning content; digitization of content; designing and implementation of e-learning platforms to support health and care staff – both clinical and non-clinical – in a variety of settings to understand the threats posed by antimicrobial resistance, and the ways they can help to tackle this major health issue.

Design and Development of Online course on Anti-microbial Resistance (AMR)
Project Background
- Course on Effective Pharmaceutical Systems for improving AMR Indicators under the Medicines, Technologies, and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS) Program, funded by USAID.
- In this project, Empower is building the capacity of frontline workers on the general overview of Pharmaceutical System and the importance of its components for sustainability in improving the AMR indicators like preventing deaths and reducing the number of diseases in the population.
Our Approach
- Empower is committed to reducing the burden of AMR in LMICs, and has already begun this work by partnering with the USAID funded MTaPS (The Medicines, Technologies, And Pharmaceutical Services) to create an Infection Prevention and Control Course to combat AMR in the following Anglophone and Francophone Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) countries, including Tanzania, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, and Cameroon.
